Entry #5 -- Grab Bag

Hey all, how's everything going?

Today's post has no real foundation, so I'm just going to ramble on about a bunch of random stories from the days sports headlines.

The reason I am using random stories is because a certain Fantasy Baseball league commissioner has yet to post our live offline draft results to ESPN.

I would love to go over how well I drafted as well as a few others in the league, but I can't, so THANKS!

So, anyways, be on the lookout for that post. And enjoy this one.

First. I am getting sick and tired of the NCAA tournament already, yet I am still pulled in by every game.

The final four has been set featuring two #1 seeds, a #2 seed, and a #3 seed. Pretty average.

I am going to give you my predictions for these games.

First, I believe that Michigan St. will be run out of the building by Uconn, unfortunately. The Huskies are on a war path right now, and the 2 seeded Spartans aren't going to trip them up.

For the second game, North Carolina has also been dominating their opponents, unlike Villanova, who had a scare in round 1 against Patriot League champs American University.

Therefore I am picking the Tar Heels, making my NCAA Championship match up:

Connecticut vs. North Carolina

Leading to the toughest pick of the tournament.

However, I am going to have to go with Toe Lawson (quote from Tim Olsen) and Tyler Hansborough a.k.a. "Freak" over Hasheem Thabeet and A.J. Price.

North Carolina def. Connecticut

Finally, the tournament is over, and I already miss it =(

Anyways, next topic:

Kevin Gregg is the Cubs new closer; NOT CARLOS MARMOL!!!

If you are in a fantasy league for baseball this year, head that headline.

Marmol was a top relief pitching prospect going into this season, until now. Gregg is the new closer, therefore, pick him up!!!

There are a couple of guys in my league who are going to read this and laugh at the person who took him, as well as be fighting to get Gregg, I am included.

So, please take it upon yourself to sign Kevin Gregg and either bench, or drop Carlos Marmol.

Good Luck!

Finally our third topic, Calipari to Kentucky?

Yes, Coach Jon Calipari is seriously contemplating a coaching job with the Kentucky Wildcats, a source close to the situation has reported.

He has been meeting with the top heads at Memphis and awaiting this big multimillion dollar contract offer from Kentucky.

No word has been said if he wants the job or not, but serious talks have emerged and will continue through the next few days.

Some reasons to leave his Memphis program behind are the feelings of tradition and a love of basketball felt in the state of Kentucky, and a stout rivalry between Louisville head coach Rick Pitino.

Of course, leaving a program that was built up from nothing and turned into a perennial National Title contender isn't easy either.

Good Luck to ya Jon.

And good luck to you my loyal subjects.

Win your brackets
Win your fantasy baseball leagues
and....umm....

Ahh win whatever the hell ya want
Lose for all I care

C ya!

Entry #4 -- *Heavy Sobbing*

Sniffle sniffle.

So sad. I mean, why? Why did it have to end that way?

Oh, geez, didn't see you there.

I was just busy mourning the loss of my bracket this year......

Yes, if you haven't read my other post, my bracket has gone down the chutes this year, seeing as my Championship pick sputtered and died in the first round.

That's West Virginia for ya...

Anyways, hows everyone doing? Hope better than me..

Lets talk about something so I can get my mind of this untimely death. How about some of the upsets this year, that is excluding a certain 11 seed over a 6 seed of course...

First we have the Vikings of Cleveland State over the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest.

An upset I picked, just to let everyone know.

Anyways

The number 4th seed from the powerhouse that is the ACC, Wake Forest, was put in there place by a 13th seed, which just happened to be the third place finisher in the Horizon league, yeah, I said the Horizon League.

Makes me feel a little better about West Virginia, at least we lost to an 11 seed...

Some other upsets include 12th seed Arizona over 5th seed Utah and 12th seed Western Kentucky over 5th seed Illinois. I never liked the number five either...

I did in fact pick Arizona to win, but sadly I had no faith in the Hilltoppers.

Well, this years tournament hasn't been as upset filled as we'd like, but there have been a few close calls such as Pitt only winning by 10 against East Tennessee St., yeah, you read that correctly.

I hope you have enjoyed the tournament so far. The best games are yet to come.

Stay tuned for some upcoming posts!

Entry #2 -- Cutler the Cry-Baby

Well everyone, if you haven't been watching anything sport's related for the past 3 weeks, you wouldn't know of the big controversy going on in Denver.

And no, it's not because their new head coach is younger than a good number of their starters, well, it does to some degree, but there's a larger issue at hand. And it has to do with a grown man throwing a hissy-fit.

That grown man is Jay Cutler, the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, or at least he is for a few more days.

Here is a basic rundown of the issue at hand:

1. Broncos lose final 3 games of the season and miss the playoffs.
2. Mike Shanahan is fired for not bringing the team to the playoffs, and, well, not winning enough.
3. Josh McDaniel's is lured away from New England and made the new head coach.
4. Meanwhile, Tom Brady(Cologne Model/Football Star) is getting healthier and looks like hes going to come back in time for next season.
5. Scott Pioli is then lured away from New England as well, yet he goes to die in Kansas City (Shitty Team).
6. Matt Cassell is franchise tagged by New England for 14.65 million dollars.
7. New England is not stupid enough to pay a potential back-up 14.65 million dollars for one year, so he is traded to Scott Pioli and the Kansas City Chiefs (Still Shitty Team)
8. However, they look dumb anyways because they only get a second round draft pick from Pioli. (Even though there weren't a lot of deals out there for a one year wonder, aka Cassell)
9. McDaniels is not happy because he wanted Matt Cassell, seeing as he turned him into that one year wonder over in New England.
10. While Cassell was being traded to Pioli and the Chiefs, McDaniels and the Broncos put their quarterback Jay Cutler on the trading block, in turn, pissing the 25 year old off.
11. Jay Cutler continues his pissy attitude for the next 2 weeks. (Drama Queen)
12. McDaniels and Cutler meet to discuss the issue, however, McDaniels says he has nothing to apologize for seeing as he is the head coach and he is in charge(BAMF), and that upset Cutler even more. (Bigger Drama Queen)
13. Jay Cutler officially demands a trade out of Denver. (Finally)
14. To be continued...........

Whew, that was alot to take in.

Basically, what all that says up there is that Cutler got mad because he was put on the trading block, and he didn't let up.

Hey Jay, heres some advice:

YOU PLAY IN THE NFL. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR A$$.

This is a damn business first, sport second, just like every other major league around the world.

You are there to get payed and then play, and if your team thinks that there is someone out there who can play better than you, guess what, you really have no say in the matter.

Yea it sucks to get "backstabbed" by your own team, if you want to call it that. But hey, if you think your as good as you say you are you should have no problem finding another starting job.

Stop your cryin for godsake, it's getting annoying and it's taking up too much time on SportsCenter.

I'd rather hear 40 more stories about who took steroids in baseball and who T.O. is pissing off this week........

Entry #1 -- Selection Sunday Snubs

Selection Sunday has come and gone, and, well, there's clearly nothing left to do but to complain.

Yes there were snubs, and yes there were generous bids, but hey, the teams have been picked so why and argue with the committee's decisions? I'll tell you why.

What else are we going to do until Thursday?

Anyways, let's get started. The snubs.

Saint Mary's , San Diego State , and Auburn

Saint Mary's was left out of this years tournament because there just weren't enough At-Large bids to go around. This was because of teams like Cleveland St., who won the Horizon League and forced Butler to get in by way of an At-Large bid.

And just let me be the first to say, I like this, because I am a fighter for the mid to low level conferences getting more than one team in the tournament. Who's to say they don't deserve as much of a shot as the 6th place finisher in a power conference?

Back to the topic at hand, Saint Mary's.

The Gaels finished at 26-6 while going 10-4 in West Coast Conference play, not too shabby.

However, against the AP, a dismal 0-3, and that my friends, is all that counts to our good ol' committee.

On to San Diego State and Auburn. The Aztecs first.

San Diego had a very strong 23-9 record, 11-5 in a tough Mountain West Conference, and a 1-1 record vs. AP, yet they still came up short, mainly due to the fact that there was no room left. Too many teams with better than average numbers and wins, keeping each other from going to the big dance.

Auburn was a tad bit different. Unlike the Gaels and Aztecs, the Tigers play in a power conference, the SEC, which is home to the former powerhouse known only as The Florida Gators.

The Tigers went 22-11 overall, and 10-6 in conference play, with a 1-2 record vs. AP. Sounds good right? Wrong. Well, maybe wrong. Ehh, actually, yeah WRONG.

The SEC was an incredibly weak conference this year, only sending 3 teams dancing.....

Those are the biggest snubs that come to mind for me. I could include Penn State, however, I hate the Big Ten.
